If that is indeed the case, why are we being governed from a position so far to the left?

Best guess, is because on certain issues, those empowered to vote, agree with a more liberal stance. I do not believe that means they are no longer conservative.

We managed to elect for a second term a president who advocates socialist/communist positions such as redistribution of wealth by government force (among he many other liberal traits).

Every time you turn around you read about various states and the federal government being near bankruptcy, yet the solution is always more taxation, never actual cuts in spending (Not a reduction in spending growth, but actual cuts)

Agree to a point. My state voted to cut government spending to makeup for our deficit. If other states do or not follow, it hardly can be blamed on liberal/conservative views. What's more important to voters, is the welfare of the state. What's important to elected officials, is their job.

As far as religion goes, Christianity in particular is being phased/forced out of our society.

Need I remind you how important "God" was to our founding fathers? They certainly wanted religious freedom; they didn't want the state to force any particular religion upon anyone, but I'm pretty sure they didn't want government forcing one out, either.

"God" was not at all important to our founding fathers. Control was. Were "God" all that important, they never would have broken away from the Church (Roman Catholic). But as the church had so much control, they used "God" to maintain said control. Now we are one nation, under God...But we are in control, NOT the church (God).

Can you really believe that we are more conservative today than we were 50 years ago?

Why else did I start this thread?

Well it's been a week, so what is the general reaction? Pretty much as expected. Coast to coast in most every denomination, BSA is having it's charter revoked and told to go elsewhere.
