PostSubject: Re: Global Warming.   Global Warming. - Page 5 EmptyFri Nov 19, 2010 10:13 pm

I have figured out a way to stop global warming. Get rid of all the water.

Quote :
When skeptics use this argument, they are trying to imply that an increase in CO2 isn't a major problem. If CO2 isn't as powerful as water vapor, which there's already a lot of, adding a little more CO2 couldn't be that bad, right? What this argument misses is the fact that water vapor creates what scientists call a 'positive feedback loop' in the atmosphere — making any temperature changes larger than they would be otherwise.

How does this work? The amount of water vapor in the atmosphere exists in direct relation to the temperature. If you increase the temperature, more water evaporates and becomes vapor, and vice versa. So when something else causes a temperature increase (such as extra CO2 from fossil fuels), more water evaporates. Then, since water vapor is a greenhouse gas, this additional water vapor causes the temperature to go up even further—a positive feedback.

How much does water vapor amplify CO2 warming? Studies show that water vapor feedback roughly doubles the amount of warming caused by CO2. So if there is a 1°C change caused by CO2, the water vapor will cause the temperature to go up another 1°C. When other feedback loops are included, the total warming from a potential 1°C change caused by CO2 is, in reality, as much as 3°C.

The other factor to consider is that water is evaporated from the land and sea and falls as rain or snow all the time. Thus the amount held in the atmosphere as water vapour varies greatly in just hours and days as result of the prevailing weather in any location. So even though water vapour is the greatest greenhouse gas, it is relatively short-lived. On the other hand, CO2 is removed from the air by natural geological-scale processes and these take a long time to work. Consequently CO2 stays in our atmosphere for years and even centuries. A small additional amount has a much more long-term effect.

So skeptics are right in saying that water vapor is the dominant greenhouse gas. What they don't mention is that the water vapor feedback loop actually makes temperature changes caused by CO2 even bigger.

...As they review the bizarre and unpredictable weather pattern of the past several years, a growing number of scientists are beginning to suspect that many seemingly contradictory meteorological fluctuations are actually part of a global climatic upheaval. However widely the weather varies from place to place and time to time, when meteorologists take an average of temperatures around the globe they find that the atmosphere has been growing gradually cooler for the past three decades. The trend shows no indication of reversing. Climatological Cassandras are becoming increasingly apprehensive, for the weather aberrations they are studying may be the harbinger of another ice age... :affraid:

Sure wish they could ship that water up HERE! :cyclops:

Global warming (which there now changing to climate change) IMO is a hoax as well. The earth has been around for a very long time and we have such a small snapshot of temperatures its hard to believe any self respecting scientist could sign off on it. Population control social engineering, as well as an excuse to tax EVERYTHING and put more money in the hands of the globalist. On a side not, does anyone else think that our president also being the leader of UN is a bit treasonous? Seems like a conflict of interests to me.

Well now we find out we have been lied to again.

The U.N. got it wrong on Himalayan glaciers -- and the proof is finally here.

The authors of the U.N.’s climate policy guide were red-faced two years ago when it was revealed that they had inaccurately forecast that the Himalayan glaciers would melt completely in 25 years, vanishing by the year 2035.

Rajendra Pachauri, head of the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and director general of the Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in New Dehli, India, ultimately issued a statement offering regret for what turned out to be a poorly vetted statement.

Scientists Denounce NASA’s ‘Unproven Remarks’ on Global Warming

Fifty top scientists, astronauts, and engineers who have worked for NASA are attacking the space agency’s stance that manmade carbon dioxide is responsible for global climate change.

Seven Apollo astronauts and the deputy director of the space shuttle program are among the experts — with more than 1,000 years of combined professional experience — who have signed a letter to NASA Administrator Charles Bolden.

The letter begins: “We, the undersigned, respectfully request that NASA and the Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) refrain from including unproven remarks in public releases and websites. We believe the claims by NASA and GISS that manmade carbon dioxide is having a catastrophic impact on global climate change are not substantiated, especially when considering thousands of years of empirical data.

“With hundreds of well-known climate scientists and tens of thousands of other scientists publicly declaring their disbelief in the catastrophic forecasts, coming particularly from the GISS leadership, it is clear that the science is NOT settled.

“The unbridled advocacy of CO2 being the major cause of climate change is unbecoming of NASA’s history of making an objective assessment of all available scientific data prior to making decisions or public statements.”

The signees charge NASA with advocating an “extreme position” on climate change “prior to a thorough study of the possible overwhelming impact of natural climate drivers.”

They conclude: “At risk is damage to the exemplary reputation of NASA, NASA’s current or former scientists and employees, and even the reputation of science itself.”

'...
4. Arctic Ice Hasn’t Disappeared as Predicted

A leading climate scientist predicted that the Arctic would be ice-free in five years — five years ago.

An article in The Guardian published in August 2008 reported the Professor Wieslaw Maslowski of the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey Calif., and his team produced a forecast “which indicated that by 2013 there will be no ice in the Arctic, other than a few outcrops on islands near Greenland and Canada, between mid-July and mid-September.”

Maslowski said: “The crucial point is that ice is clearly not building up enough over winter to restore cover and that when you combine current estimates of ice thickness with the extent of the ice cap, you get a very clear indication that the Arctic is going to be ice-free in summer in five years.”

The article also quoted Professor Peter Wadhams of Cambridge University in Britain: “Now the most detailed computer models suggest the Arctic’s summer ice is going to last for only a few more years.”

Arctic ice did not disappear last summer, however. And the National Snow and Ice Data Center has reported that the “average sea ice extent for January 2013 was 5.32 million square miles.”

President Obama showed that he has bought into the global warming hysteria when he declared in his State of the Union address on Tuesday: “For the sake of our children and our future, we must do more to combat climate change.”

Respected climate scientist Richard Lindzen, who is the Alfred P. Sloan Professor of Meteorology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, said in remarks quoted by the Climate Depot website: “Future generations will wonder in bemused amazement that the early 21st century developed world went into hysterical panic over a globally averaged temperature increase of a few tenths of a degree, and, on the basis of gross exaggerations of highly uncertain computer projections combined into implausible chains of inference, proceeded to contemplate a roll-back of the industrial age.” ...'

The global warming hysteria is part of Agenda 21, and is designed to scare people into destroying industry and reducing the standard of living in our nation to bring us into poverty parity with the rest of the world.

SOUNDS LIKE SCIENCE FICTION...OR SOME CONSPIRACY THEORY...BUT IT ISN'T.”

UN Agenda 21/Sustainable Development is the action plan implemented
worldwide to inventory and control all land, all water, all minerals,
all plants, all animals, all construction, all means of production,
all energy, all education, all information, and all human beings in
the world.”

“It was in the Rio De Janeiro Agenda 21 conference (1990s) where it was determined that the earth was over-populated and to save the planet it was necessary to exterminate
90% of the world's population. War, disease, starvation, death camps – you name it.”

“Agenda 21 would ELIMINATE 90% of humanity”

It's long past time where the U.S. told the U.N. to go sit somewhere quietly and shut up.

Oh, and take that headquarters operation you have and move it at least 12.1 miles due east.

Bandit, if you see this, I just responded to your comment on the sci fi boards regarding global warming. in the space science & tech thread...
Just in case the mods delete it (and they probably will)

It's all about the money, and extracting more of it from western countries such as the United States. Even U.N Officials have admitted that their environmental polices' primary purpose is wealth redistribution.

http://www.appinsys.com/globalwarming/UN_AGWscam.htm

If you don't like that reference, please, feel free to search the 'net for others. There's more than enough out there.

Quote

“Basically it's a big mistake to discuss climate policy separately from the major themes of globalization. The climate summit in Cancun at the end of the month is not a climate conference, but one of the largest economic conferences since the Second World War. … One has to free oneself from the illusion that international climate policy is environmental policy. This has almost nothing to do with environmental policy anymore … But one must say clearly that we redistribute de facto the world's wealth by climate policy.”

Annoyed,

GW is a scientific theory. One mind you, that has been refuted time and time again. I added another post for that knuckle-head. To be blunt, if you have sexual fantasies about female cartoon characters, don't expect me to take you seriously, regardless what links you provide.

As for the UN, Professor Wieslaw Maslowski has updated his projection of the Arctic ice melting. As before, it will be by the next US presidential election (2016).

I care less what the UN does, because my nation never listens to them anyway. Especially if it's going to cost us money.
