| I want your opinion on which scifi show or movie had the best government. Be it the government of The Federation or Ferengi whatever comes to mind and why. | |

| In Dune, House Atreides was replete with concubines, mancats like Thufir, and foot servants. The Sleeper must awaken!!! | |

| If I had to pick a choice, it would be the kind of gov't laid out in Starship Troopers. The book version mind you, not the semi-Nazi-ish looking one from the movie.
In the book, the political system was very similar to the Constitutional Republic version of what we have in America complete with the same individual rights, but with one exception-- only 'Citizens' were allowed to vote and hold public office, and to become a Citizen, you had to render military service. Not sure what the other side of the coin would be for those who never entered the military, 'Inhabitant' maybe?
But the reason being was that voting was seen as such an important right, you had to show your willingness to put something bigger than yourself- your country, your society, etc., ahead of your own personal comforts. Plus it also motivated the more agressive or alpha-types, who were more apt to join the military anyway, into entering public office and thus, as the author Robert Heinlein put it, 'put the sheepdogs firmly in charge of the sheep.'
Say what you will about Heinlein's limited vision of a gov't. We *definitely* have too many sheep in our Congress. Which partly is responsible IMO, for the degradation of our once great country.

Totally agree with what you wrote, Locomoco. Even when I saw this movie I found myself wishing OUR government would switch to that style immediately. Of course, we would lose 90% of our governmental leadership, but I don't see THAT as a bad thing either!

Of course, we would lose 90% of our governmental leadership, but I don't see THAT as a bad thing either! Very true. .. and not such a bad thing either! 90% of the leadership in D.C. is *absoutely f'ing useless!* More than half would *never* think of serving their country. So bye-bye Pelosi, Franks, and the rest of the far-left hoodlums. There would still be other far-left people like Kerry and Rangels but they would be overwhelmed by (what I like to think would be) more clear-thinking american veterans. Hell, in this country, more than half the voting populace excercises their right to vote, people think it's an overwhelming turnout! Nothing given is as precious as that which is earned. The ability to self-determinate your future through the political process is an impossibility in many countries around the world and here, we leave such a precious thing to gather dust on the sidewalk. People are so engrossed with their public entertainment, so bogged down in the minutae of their daily lives, the socialist do-gooders.. those with the time, $$$ and motivation to change YOUR world, are always up and about. Doing things they hope will not get the public's attention until it's too late. Why does the world look so schizophrenic? Why so many inconsistencies and hypocrisy in our legislation? Because we're still in the midst of the far-left trying to institute their change on the rest of us.. and if we don't fight back, they will win by default. I'll end this post with a quote from C.S. Lewis of Narnia fame: "Of all the tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent, moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for *our own good* will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."If we had a gov't system like in Heinlein's vision, I would argue it would be too high a bar for most socialist progressives. For many, it would go against the grain to put their lives on the line for a country they hate. And by raising that bar, we would finally end much of the foolishness in Washington D.C. by people who have absolutely no ability to govern us.

| Speaking of Kerry and Rangle at least Rangle fought in the mud. Kerry purple heart was fake. At least Rangle fought beside his fellow Marines and watched them die as Kerry had the cushy job and ran like a little girl. | |

You know, quite well that Kerry went over there with an agenda and someone pulled strings to get him out, with just enough credibility to be heard by congress. It was a staged event with a predestined outcome. Not unlike the Manchurian Candidate we have in the White house now.

| I'd say it's like B5's. A lot of shadowy alien influences going on anymore.

| Both choices are really good. But I would say B5 and we could end up like fire fly but hopefully win at the end. | |
