Another classic from MGM. Released in 1994, it credits Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich as creating it, but that's not true. It was created by an Egyptology student named Omar Zuhdi. He wrote it, and got a copyright. Later he sent a copy to Devlin and Emmerich to see if they would be interested in turning it into a movie with his help. They turned him down, and instead approached MGM posing it as their own creation. After MGM discovered the ruse, they settled out of court with the movies REAL creator.
So what makes this movie so special? Space travel with no spacecraft! But watching it, you can tell it was created by a Egyptologist. The hieroglyphic scripts, deity's, spoken languages, all were accurate. This in turn made the movie all the more believe able (suspension of disbelief).
