The first computer I had was a Commodore 64. I got turned onto it by a friend I played D&D with in the military. I remember the first game I had was a chess game, that I had to program it in, in dos mode. I never was any good at it, but I loved the idea of having a computer and having something I could do to resemble having a life, somewhere.

This was in Ft. Carson, Co and when I went over to Germany I was blown away by a new computer from Commodore called The Amiga 500.

Amiga 500

This was my first experience with the use of Icons you could click and it was like night and day over my 64. Thank Griffin, they had a program that allowed you to buy electronic equipment on time. I hated leaving eye brow prints on the screens of those I looked at in the commissary.

It wasn't a week, before I had one setting in my room and was working on my gaming library. The games I really liked were the Proving ground of the Mad Overlord, Bards Tale and several others that were RPG. Then out came the Dungeons and Dragons games and I was in love.

I was also into simulators, especially the ones from Microprose. I had the stealth fighter and the one for submarines. There was also a tank simulator and I loved Pirates, when it came out.

Sadly, I never went back to the chess game, but I remember the cassette it was on made a fairly convensing Fresbie as it headed out of my car, towards that speed limit sign. lol

The first computer I ever owned was Sinclair ZX81 ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZX81 ). This thing used your TV as a monitor, and used an external cassette player for data storage.
Not much in the way of gaming on this puppy.

The first games I ever got into were the original "Wolfenstein 3D" and its contemporaries, such as "Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold", as well as the original LucasArts "Star Wars: X-Wing "

The first computer I (rather my family) almost owned was the Intellivision. Way back in abbout 1980...What was your first computer and what games and programs did you have? 934175intellivision1
Now you might be saying, but the Intellivision was a platform game system, not a home computer! And you'd be right, but one of the big selling points they had was the promise of forthcoming components to turn it into a home computer. A big selling point to a lot of people. Alas despite all the hype and promises they never released the computer components. Which is why I say "almost owned".What was your first computer and what games and programs did you have? Still although it doesn't really qualify to the question, the first game on the Intellivision for me was "Space Battle" where you man a gun turret and blast attacking ships from space.

Fast forward to 1995 and I finally got my first computer. A Packard Bell, don't really recall any specs, but it did come with a great big 15 inch monitor! Lol.

And my first game, which I still play often to this day, was "Birth of the Federation"
