CHESTERFIELD, Va. --

A Chesterfield County mother was arrested Monday and charged with brandishing a gun at her daughter’s school bus stop, police said.

Shiquita D. Reed, 33, of the 5100 block of Hackney Road, was charged with five misdemeanor counts of brandishing a firearm.

Police said they received information that a mother had come to the Manchester Middle School bus stop Monday morning with regard to other students bullying her daughter. Once there, students reportedly observed the woman with a handgun in a holster on her waist.

“She took it out of the holster and did not point it at the children themselves but pointed it at the ground,” said Chesterfield police Capt. Russ Lescault. “And while she was pointing it at the ground, she made threats toward the students.”

The students reported the incident to their principal upon their arrival to school. Police were called to investigate.

No students or staff was injured during the incident. Police said they have recovered the weapon involved.

I thought that I could find something equally crazy as mom bringing a handgun to the bus stop. Lo and behold though I puff up with pride for my town.

Yep our JROTC kids are #2 in the nation! And last year were #1. Cool.
When I moved here in 83 we had the World Champion Softball team. I'll find some politics as usual or crazy person with weapon stories later.

Not just crazy people but just any story you find interesting. Just so we can see what it is like in other places in the country.

Here is a news story that effects my state.

Quote :
West Virginia's first responders are doing more with less these days.

With budgets tightening and fewer federal dollars available, state Office of Emergency Services Director Jimmy Gianato says finding the funding for training isn't always easy, but it is necessary.

"We're going to see a decrease in the federal funds, so we have to figure out how we maximize the dollars we get to reach the biggest number of people," Gianato told MetroNews.

One of those ways, according to Gianato, is the West Virginia Safety Expo going on this week at the Charleston Civic Center.

More than 400 first responders, from police to firefighters and EMS, are attending the event. It features classroom training and hands-on workshops to help emergency workers update their skills and learn the latest in life saving techniques.

"Training is critical. Training saves lives."

Gianato says the Expo is an excellent way to train emergency workers in general techniques. "They're a good way to fill in the gaps," he said.

However, he stresses the state still has to come up with the money for specialized training.

"We're pushing to expand the state's search and rescue program and swift water programs because one of our largest hazards is flooding."

Gianato says budget cuts may make it tougher to come up with the funding but promises critical training will continue.

Dearborn, Michigan: Muslims physically attack Christian groups

Quote :
The violent intimidation of anti-jihadists that I just saw in Stuttgart is coming to America. Authorities should act quickly and decisively to defend the freedom of speech, or it will most assuredly soon be gone. As Pamela Geller notes, these stories involve "two Christian groups, both under attack in a no-go zone zone in Dearborn, Michigan, in an increasingly sharia compliant America. Dearborn, the same city that refused to run my bus ads offering help to apostates (despite our win in the courts). On Friday, two separate groups were threatened and attacked because they came to Dearborn to stand for their beliefs. Whether you like their presentation or not is irrelevant. It's free speech. Period.""Pastor Terry Jones Rallies in Dearborn, Skips Arab Festival," by Amy Lange forWJBK/myFOXDetroit.com, June 17 (thanks to Pamela Geller):

There was a hostile welcome Friday afternoon in Dearborn for controversial Florida Pastor Terry Jones. You could say he was pushed to his brink.

Jones led a rally against radical Islam at city hall before trying to continue his protest at the nearby Arab International Festival, but he never made it there.

Protesters got physical with Jones as he tried to head for the festival. He barely made it off the corner of Michigan and Schaefer.

Dearborn police made several arrests after urging the pastor to take a car instead of trying to walk the two miles to the festival.

People in the crowd yelled back and then they pushed back, prompting police to put Jones in a police car for his own safety. The pastor decided not to go to the festival after all.

Tensions were high after a highly inflammatory rally during which Jones and fellow speakers sometimes insulted the crowd and Islam, at times holding up the Koran for emphasis.

"I actually expected them to let us walk along the sidewalk and just continue to yell. I did not expect for them to actually get physical," Jones told reporters....

"Tensions high as protestors arrive at Dearborn Arab International Festival," by Julie Banovic for WXYC, June 17 (thanks again to Pamela Geller):

DEARBORN, Mich. (WXYZ) - The Arab International Festival attracts more than 300,000 people to Dearborn every year. This is the 16th year for the event that turned rowdy and at times dangerous when religious beliefs and protesters clashed.

The protesters waved signs plastered with sayings like ‘Islam is a religion of blood and murder’, many at the Arab International Festival saw hate.

“Talking dirty about the Koran. Dirty about Muslims,” said Mustafa Kahwaji.

Geller addresses this deftly: "Indeed. But bus ads and billboards that myriad Muslim groups ran claiming that Abraham, Issac, Jacob and Moses were Muslims were deeply offensive and 'dirty' to non-Muslims. Nobody was attacked."

They call themselves the bible believers—men and women assembled from all over the country.

Their posters and shouting caused the 16th annual festival to come to a standstill around 5:30 Friday night. Their organizer Ruben Israel comes from California.

“We’re here in Dearborn because they have issues with free speech,” said Ruben Israel.

You can say that again.

He says the group was enraged about the four missionaries arrested last July at the Arab American Festival, for their shouting their own religious message. It was a protest that officials deemed disorderly.

“When you arrest men for passing out literature, you’re going to get guys like us,” said Israel.

Tensions mounted and people in the crowd of 40-50 thousand started throwing things.

I myself was hit during my live shot when a full water bottle whipped from the crowd. It was an angry message meant for a protester.

No one was arrested, but police removed disorderly people from the crowd and asked them to leave the festival.

“Why are you going to come to our city and disrespect us like that,” said on angry onlooker.

Barricades were provided in an effort to separate protesters from furious festival goers. But after three hours, organizers were ready to take them down.

“If this is how they are going to behave, then his has gone beyond free speech at this point,” said Ahmad Chebbani, Chairman of the American Arab Chamber of Commerce.

“Things are going to get real pushy on the sidewalk. And whatever happens, blood is on his shoulder,” said Israel....

Indeed.

Problems yet again at the Muslim festival in Dearborn. They make it sound like these Christian groups deserved this treatment. But the truth is that their free speech is being trampled on by a police force and a city government that are Muslim controlled. In past years the city police have simply arrested the Christians and removed them, but they got some bad feedback for violating freedom of speech and false arrest charges . So this year they just turned a blind eye to physical attacks on the Christians until the Christians came asking for help... the police then so helpfully escorted them out of town.

This video is what happened last year...

This one will shock you but in a good way,
Quote :
The state Supreme Court has upheld a decision from a Berkeley County Circuit Judge on a medical malpractice case.

On Wednesday, the Court released its opinion on James MacDonald versus City Hospital and Doctor Sayeed Ahmed.

The case started when MacDonald and his wife filed a negligence lawsuit in 2007 because they claim James was given prescription drugs he should not have been given, based on his medical history, when he was admitted to City Hospital in Martinsburg in 2004.

He was being treated for Type II diabetes, shortness of breath and pneumonia.

The claim was that MacDonald was permanently injured because of the negative interactions between the drugs. Hospital officials denied that at trial, saying they properly checked for possible bad interactions and warned the MacDonalds about side effects.

After hearing evidence during a trial in 2008, a jury awarded $1.5 million to the MacDonalds for what are called noneconomic losses. A Berkeley County judge reduced that to $500,000 to comply with the state cap on such losses.

In the opinion, the Court found that the state limit on compensatory damages for medical malpractice to be constitutional and kept the amount at $500,000.

The MacDonalds had wanted the full award, while those with City Hospital were arguing for $250,000.

If this was federal law the lefties would have a fit.

They are probably looking for any spills or seepage into a waterway. Since to the EPA everything is a pollutant it wouldn't be hard. I'm sure it will be the final nail in the coffin for the independent small farmers. Nothing like a heavy handed bureaucracy to close you down so some big corporation can come in and buy up your land for pennies on the dollar. I hate this crap!

This is not my home town however this would qualify as local news.

A Michigan resident is facing up to 93 days in jail for planting a vegetable garden in her front yard, MyFoxDetroit.com reports. Julie Bass, of Oak Park, Michigan was first given a warning followed by a ticket and now she is being charged with a misdemeanor for her simple front-yard garden. Good for her standing up to the city NAZIS. With a jury I think she will win this one and government can shove it!
