| I know it's futile fighting useless battles. I kick myself but I can't help it. Anymore than I could help reading the comments regarding a story from the Honolulu Advertiser about a stabbing that happened in Japan:
http://www.staradvertiser.com/news/breaking/112066119.html
The comments drove me on. But as you can see from the back and forth, not really much of a debate is going on here...
( ainahaina 14 hours ago ) "We should adopt Japan's laws on gun restriction. They have the lowest crime rate in the entire world. If these crazy guys had guns imagine how many people would be dead. "
( omgwth 11 hours ago in reply to ainahaina ) "very true, except here in US the conservative NRA pukes would say that if everyone had guns to protect themselves, this crazy guy would dead before hurting more people. of course, such idiotic ideas don't think about how much more violence would result by more people carrying guns. "
( Locomoco2359 8 hours ago in reply to omgwth ) "To ainahaina and omgwth you are both wrong. Thanks for following the rules btw omgwith with the comment about 'NRA pukes'. Nice.
For the hope and promise of security, your sentiment is to give away individual liberty and rights which once lost, will never be regained again. You can't legislate security anymore than you can guarantee safety.
This crazy guy while gleefully stabbing people probably knew in the back of his mind that there was nobody that could do anything to him. It is amazing how supposed crazy people suddenly sober up once they meet an opposing force. A responsible person armed with a knife could have deterred him from hurting as many as he did.
It is in fact a tragedy that the country that gave the world the katana, its modern day citizens can't even walk around with a pocket knife. That's just sad."
( omgwth 7 hours ago in reply to Locomoco2359 ) "less weapon = less violence, period. NRA are made of sick PUKES!!! "
(Locomoco2359 0 minutes ago in reply to omgwth ) "Very respectful (heavy sarcasm) to people with other points of view. No wonder both sides of the political spectrum can no longer work together. It's all name calling and mudslinging. So glad you can group an entire segment of fellow americans and refer to them as pukes. Quite the broad brush.
Laws only affect the law abiding. Less weapons do not always mean less violence. During the Katrina disaster, New Orleans police illegally began confiscating people's firearms and of course, the public had no choice but to comply during that time. Violence then shot up as criminals (who normally disregard rules and laws btw..) had less to fear from preying on their now defenselss neighbors.
I would not put more power and sole responsiblity of security into the hands of gov't. That way only leads to tyranny. An informed and active public whose *inalienable* rights were the envy of the world is something to be promoted, not abolished. "

| Your right about fighting useless battles. The anti-gun crowd are blind to facts because they want to be. They had billboards on I75 here when they passed the right to carry law, that warned tourist of their doom because the state was going to be like the old west. Unfortunately no follow up to their lies ever happened | |

| These silly liberals seem to live in this fantasy that just because guns and knives are outlawed that somehow people will all of a sudden just behave themselves and violence will just stop. When over and over throughout the world its been proven that it just emboldens criminals. | |

| You know murder, theft, prostitution, child abuse, etc are all illegal yet those crimes still happen. It would be nice if criminals obeyed the law, but they don't. Only the non criminals obey the law. So by making guns illegal all you are doing is making sure only criminals have guns. Therefore they know the public are sitting ducks so crime gores up. Ever since the UK banned guns, home invasions, assaults, muggings, etc have gone through the roof. | |

People continue to forget this reality, don't they? | |

| I try telling people like this; When I was a younger man, I indulged in more than a few illegal drugs. Most if not all of them came from foreign countries far away. If I could get drugs from from all these places, then why not an AK47 or such? If there is a market for guns then someone is going to fill that market. Criminals do not buy guns from legal dealers, they buy them off the street, just like drugs. | |
