I'd make it conform to canon. Which is one thing that would result in many changes. The Klingons would look and act like Klingons, Starfleet would act like Starfleet, the tech would be appropriate, the ships would look right, the Mirror Universe would be the Mirror Universe instead of the Mirror Image Universe, etc.
