...legal group founded by evangelist Pat Robertson. It claimed that the insurance mandate is unconstitutional because it forces Americans to buy a product for the rest of their lives and that it violates the religious freedom of those who choose not to have insurance because they rely on God to protect them from harm
wtf? Wow. Just flat out wow!

| There are some religions who don't believe in doctors or hospitals. They believe it is up to God if they live or die. Whether it's from heart problems or the common cold, they won't and don't seek medical help or take medicine. Might not make a lot of sense to most people, but it is their right. These people choose not to use medical services on religious grounds, why should they be forced to buy insurance they will never use? | |

How many people refuse to go to a doctor or hospital when they are very sick? Maybe .000001 percent of the population and that's including the outright crazies and not just the religiously minded. Fine, those few thousand can file for an exemption. And if they are seriously injured it should then be against the law for a doctor or hospital to treat them. Oh, wait. It actually is against the law to not get your children medical treatment for religious reasons.

| I could care less why these people want or dont medical treatment just know they are right that no government should be telling me or be involved in health care in anyway. They screw up every last thing they touch and medicine is the last thing they should be involved in. | |

| It should not only be a god given right but an American right if you do not want to see a doctor.
Nothing like taking individual freedoms away.

In a free society, no one should be forced to buy health insurance or file for an exemption. We already ARE exempt from such federal laws under the US Constitution, specifically the 9th & 10th Amendments.

See you are trying to protect people from being stupid. I say let stupidity reign. Can't protect everyone.

I agree and have no problem with a law that puts a lean on everything they own and automatically takes a percentage of there pay until its payed for or they die of old age. Or even better get rid of all government involvement in health care like in the 1960s before the beginning of medicare when poverty was at it lowest levels ever. And when every private doctor and hospital did a certain percentage of charity for the poor in treatment. And before government involvement when insurance was only needed for major treatments like heart attacks and such. And doctors would charge a small set fee to be seen which government now discourages because they say doctors cant charge like insurance companies. Government is the whole problem in Americas health care issues.

Amen, ssvs04! I wish we could get the damn government OUT of our health care and our lives! All they do is screw things up, and bankrupt the nation in the process.

| Case after case has said no it is not a religious right. Parents that would not get their kids medical help do to religion have been ordered to get medical help for their kid. | |

This can be a rather confusing and sticky issue. I believe firmly that the federal government has no lawful authority to mandate that we purchase health care, or that we or our children get "mandatory" vaccinations. But when a child is very sick and near death, it seems hard to justify NOT taking him to the hospital. Still, raising children is parents business - not government business. Where to draw the line?
