Well campers, throw that out the window. Telecommunications companies just got an early X-mas present. The FCC just ruled they can charge anyone whatever they want for Internet access.

Hopefully Congress will overrule them.

Yes you have both sides claiming things. One side claims that if the government takes it over they can shut down Fox News. The other side says small business can be left out. I will admit I do not know enough about this. I guess we will find out who is right and who is wrong. The only thing I have to go by is that before 2015 nothing really happened. I guess it will be really bad or really good.

The government isn't taking over anything. This directly affects Net based business' (Amazon and the like) and the consumers (us). It's all about bandwidth (data usage) buddy.

Before providers couldn't charge Amazon any more money, than say a small gift shop doing online sales. Now they can.

In short, people started using the Internet to make money. Now providers that give everyone access want a chunk of that cash flow. DOS (Denial of Service) ring a bell?

Okay because there is so misinformation out there. That means Amazon and others will have to start charging more for their service. I get it now.

By no means am I very informed on this issue. I know that about 99% of the online talk you hear about this issue is stuff like Bandit has said. The other 1% says the exact opposite. I really don't know... all I do know is that these rules that have been repealed have only been around for two years and I don't remember anything being wrong prior to 2015. If they start charging me a bunch extra, I'll get rid of the internet.

Here is an interesting video. I'm not posting it because I think he's right, I really don't know, but simply because he's one of the people saying the opposite of the majority.

Pretty much. Look at the video Eber posted of Mr. Blalock. He says some key things. His 3 man section is in charge of data management (bandwidth) in the telecommunications company he works for. Prior to Net Neutrality, he took "priority" data and ensured it was transmitted, while holding other data in a buffer system, waiting for an opening in traffic (bandwidth). In plain English, they're plumbers, of which he certainly looks the part. The systems gets plugged up with data, he has to fix it.

What he fails to mention, is what he knows nothing about. Specifically whom applies priority to who's data and why? He mentions time sensitive data, and streaming services. What makes them so special? The answer is they pay telecommunications companies to ensure they take priority. Whoever pays more gets uninterrupted service. Everybody else suffers a degradation of service. Slow to load pages, constantly buffering videos, etc.

Net Neutrality ended all that. It leveled the playing field, so to speak. My data was no less important than yours. Yours no less important than Amazons. And Ebers no less important than Netflix's. But poor Mr. Blalock had to actually work now. Watching the video, you can see how angry he was after just 2 years.

So who's right? Only time will tell. But I suspect we won't have to wait too long.

Here's an interesting article I came across while trying to get a better understanding of the subject. Seems to explain some things fairly well, and also throws in the authors opinion at the end. Happens to be another person not going with the popular mainstream opinion.

https://techhotnews.com/2017/12/04/opinion-net-neutrality-is-a-myth-and-the-fcc-changes-arent-what-you-think/

Again, I'm not taking a stance on either side because I don't know. All I do know, is that in my personal experience, nothing seemed to change from 2014 till now, so I don't know why it would change going back to how it was in 2014. But as Bandit said...

Hell I had that before. My ISP is messed up. I have a 38mb upload speed and a 1.5 download speed. Something is wrong and I am calling the company on Monday if they cannot fix it going to the lowest speed they have. Why should I pay a bunch of money for something that sucks.

$79 for a 25MB connection that is all they will tell me. When I did speed test before the download was much faster at 15mb.

That's really expensive. I pay $65 for tested speeds of 45 down and 5.8 up. I'm not even sure what my speed is supposed to be, just what it tests out at.

Sure but I live in the boonies. I am going to call the ISP tomorrow and find out WTF is going on. Hard to watch videos when you have several devices going at one time. It should be at least 25 down and 5 up.

Yeah that's like my Dad. He's only 15 miles from me, but I'm in town and he's out in middle of nowhere. He wouldn't even have the internet he does have if he hadn't put up a huge tower to be able to get it.

Found out why my internet was so slow. My WiFi is all messed up. Hard wired into my router the speed jumped way up to 38mb download 35 upload. going to buy a new router or hard wire my computer whatever is cheaper.
