Well production is coming along nicely. They spent three months building the Raza and it's almost complete. And I tell you it's massive (the set)! Bridge, engineering, crew quarters, flight deck, cargo hold, etc.

They also finalized the shuttles for the Raza. They're Phantom Class Marauders. And since this isn't a "kiddie" show, everything is armed to the teeth! But we can't have the Raza flying around the galaxy dealing out death and carnage with nothing to shoot at, can we?

Well there's heavy cruisers, destroyers, the Ferrous Corp, Mikkei Combine, and Galactic Authority for starters.

Anyhoo, prep has started on episodes 101 and 102 as they get closer to start filming. More updates as I get around to it.

Filming started yesterday, and production continues for the next 90 days! For those familiar with the comics series, those events will unfold in the first 2 episodes of the series. The next 10 episodes is all new stuff.

The story starts aboard the Raza, with her crew coming out of stasis. But there's a glitch. They have no past memories. Where are they? How did they get there? Who and what are they? And who did this to them and why?

Once they discover the truth, they are left with two options. Cut their losses and run, or stand their ground and fight.

Production is going better than expected! They made it through all the fight scenes of the first three episodes, and nobody got hurt! Well, the cast anyway. Zoie Palmers stunt double did, as did a few others. But nothing serious. As intensive as the fighting will be, I'm actually surprised. Keep in mind, this is an action show. With only 12 eps this season, they have to balance where fighting takes place; ground (hand to hand) space (ship to ship) a mix of both, and some drama.

From my posts, you've probably figured out that production ends March 31st, so when will it air? Good question. Syfy will air it this year, however the Canadian network paying for most of it, has yet to be identified. Nobody admits to knowing why. But it appears that Syfy can air it at the same time, or after the Canadian network, just not before them. So that's why Syfy won't give a date.

A busy week! This week was chock full of women! Odd, considering the series only has 3 female in it's main cast, and even so, one is an android.

For those that remember Torri Higgenson ( Star Trek, SGA), she plays Commander Delaney Truffault from the Galactic Authority, I believe. I saw her on set and didn't recognize her. She still looks as hot as she did 11 years ago though.

Another hottie is Tera Yelland. Her role is uber secret for some reason.

Last woman of note, is actually behind the camera. Amanda Tapping will be directing an episode or two.

But I did find out the entire season is due the first week of June. So I would expect to be watching the show this June sometime.

And for those fans of Star Trek or Stargate, you'll see a lot of familiar faces this season.

Cast reveal! The character is named Tabor Calchek, and he is the "handler" for the crew of the Raza.

Quote :
Slick, silver-tongued, and more than a little seedy, Tabor Calchek is the crew’s “handler” and the ultimate agent. For the standard 10% commission, he uses his underworld connections as a broker to secure his clients their lucrative assignments. Tabor is sly, manipulative and opportunistic, and can always be counted on to look out for his client’s best interests…right after his own.

Filming finished on Shafou2 (Space Station) so now it's off to the set for a freighter. Amanda also finished directing ep 104 and bid the cast and crew farewell.

So as we have the time, a commentary from me.

Will this show be like Stargate? No. While I have heard comments from some folks that think it will be, I have found them to be still crying over Stargate. To date, nothing in this show even relates to anything I've ever watched in the Stargate franchise. So if you want more Stargate, this ain't it.

In this show, Earth is around the 24th/25th century. We have not only left the solar system, the galaxy too! Remember the "Galactic Authority"? That should have been a clue. To get outside of their jurisdiction, you have to leave the galaxy.

In my next post, I'll comment on tech and alien life.

Now that post on technology and alien life.

No aliens in the first season. However, they are looking into them, IF the series becomes a success and IF they can get the money. The startup costs for a space based Sci-Fi show are huge.

As for tech, we run the gambit. Greed and money are alive and well in the future. Therefore, only those with the cash can have the latest and greatest tech. Everybody else settles for what they can afford.

That's where the Raza comes into play. She is the latest and greatest of everything. She can travel at sublight, or FTL. She has stasis chambers for her crew. She has her own auxiliary craft that are as advanced. I could go on, but you get the picture.

You're right. Just cut off that airplane looking tail right behind the engines, and they look almost identical.
