Well, looks like I'm the new owner of an "07" Dodge 1500 Quadcab and I'm beginning to think It will work out better than I originally expected.

I originally wanted a larger truck. more like a ton and a half duelly, which has 4 tires on the rear axil, instead of 2. I want to buy a 35' to 40' 5th wheel trailer to live in while I'm off the road and I had a few people tell me that the truck would never haul that much weight, without burning up, either the truck or the trany. That began to worry me, since I'd already financed the truck and had not yet even made the first payment.

I then thought about dropping a diesel engine in there as all I have now is a V-8, until I was told that bastardiing a truck will screw up it's resale value. Then I happened to park at a truck stop that, when I woke up, I found that someone in the same truck that I owned, except for he had a newer one, had parked in front of me. He also had a 35' 5th wheel trailer behind him and speaking to him, I found out that the weight of a 35' trailer only bogged the engine down when going up hills. There isn't all that may hills in cenral Texas and I've not left anything I'd be willing to go and retrieve in any state other than there, so I'm cool.

Congratulations on your new truck! It's way better to own it than to drive someone else's. Cebtral Texas...much too hot for me. I need the cold, so Colorado is fine for me. I just wish Autumn was longer.

I lived in Kansas for most of my life. I went into the Army for 8.5 yearts and got out during the Early out program set up after the wal fell. They told me I could leave now with $19000 or get kicked out later and they'd only hand my $9,000. I figured that I'd be better off to beat the surge and get a good job before they were all taken up. I went right into trucking and have been there ever since.

I loved the Winter, but not the deep cold, when I went up in the North ans especially the North East or West. Both were too liberal and practically punished trucks for going up there.

Where in Colorado are you from? I've been all over that state.

If you're considering engine swaps, be careful. It's not like in the old days where all you had to do was make it fit.

These days, emissions checks are part and parcel of annual "safety inspections", and if your vehicle isn't something that a manufacturer has submitted emissions testing information that can be tested against, you may have issues with the annual inspections, and as a result, registration and such.

The days of stuffing a big block Chevy engine into a Vega are long gone.

Yes, I have seen that done. Unfortunately for the owner, a Vega chassis can't come close to handling the torque a massaged big block can put out. First time he punched it, he twisted the body up like a candy cane. Sprung both doors, the hatchback, and every piece of glass in the thing.

That depends on what state you live in. In Michigan there are no "safety inspections", annual or otherwise and no emission checks either.

Damn, I could just see that happening. Did you laugh your butt off, when It happened?

Next time buy a Chevy with a 7 litre motor.

You lived in Kansas most of your life? My brother lives in Prairie Village. Was that near you?
