PostSubject: Health care and throat issues.   Mon Feb 20, 2012 5:55 pm

Been having problems with my throat feeling like there is a lump it would come and go for several years now. It now at the point where it is not going away and is becoming very uncomfortable. So went to a throat specialist and they had to put one these cameras down my nose and into my throat. Not a pleasant experience on how they numb your nose and having that camera put down. Then had to go for some kind scan where they put a Ivy on you to pump you full of some kind of dye that immediately puts a strange taste in your mouth and gives you the feeling that you just peed in your pants. So then got the photos of those scans to take with me before I left. Thursday I have my appointment for the doctor to look at. But before going to this scan the doctor says I have some kind of growth on my tonsils and will have to have them removed. Thinking ok no big deal some ice cream for a day and im good to go. NO, no, no! Not that easy! Apparently its more serious of a operation when your a 41 year old adult. He told me im in for some serious pain and will probably be out of commission for ten days of no work! Being self employed this is never good.

Anyways where else can you get all this done in a day with top rate care. Definetly not Canada or Britian. If the supreme court doesnt over turn this I cant wait for the prices to triple along with wait times. Glory days are almost here!

The operation takes a day but like they said, at 41 the recovery time is longer. There are vitamins/supplements you can take to help you recover more quickly and prevent infection, and in your position I'd take the following:

1) A good multivitamin with chelated minerals, specifically Twinlab “Daily One Caps” with iron. I'd add some extra vitamins C, D, and K to that.
2) Garlic (from cloves or pills) helps prevent infection. Odorless pills like Kyolic are easiest on those around you.
3) Turmeric capsules fight inflammation and thereby help reduce pain.

I'll pray for you that the operation goes well.

Good luck with that. Hope it works out well and goes easy for you. I've never had mine out, but I've heard the same thing; its much worse for adults. I've even heard it's harder on teens than single digit kids. Not sure why it gets worse as a person gets older, but apparently it ranges from 'no big deal' for a preteen, to 'not fun' for older teens, all the way to 'sucks @ss' for adults.

Hang in there man.

Much appreciated from the both of you. Will find out Thursday when I will get this done. Sooner the better.

Okay so I bring my throat scan to the doctor. Well my lymph nodes are swollen like a peach next to my tonsils. He moved his 10% cancer prediction to 50%. Rushes the surgery date for Tuesday. So yesterday had to go for EKG. Then a blood test which every single time no one get my blood without poking me at least 4 times at which they get the head nurse to do it. Little rolling veins they tell me. And today a chest x ray. Why they need all this stuff to remove something from my throat I have no idea?

Wow, that doesn't sound good. I know you're not a believer, but I said a prayer for you. Something tells me they'll remove the tonsils, the growth will benign and then the rest of the swelling will go away.

Well had my operation yesterday and my chest scans and blood test were negative for cancer. So if there is cancer in my throat it has not spread and thats a big relief. They removed the tonsils with little problem to send out for testing and the pain during the day has been some of the worst ive experienced ever. Even the Oxycodone doesnt get rid of the intense pain so have been watching tv all day and sucking on popsicles.

Too bad we can't get together to celebrate, but we're all really far apart geographically. Colorado - Michigan - Florida. Ugh.

I live about 1600 miles from Florida. One day I will go to the Disney place once my 2 vehicles are paid off.

Well you let me know when your coming and if you want to go to universal studios well get you free parking. The wife renews with season tickets every year for the free parking as much time as we spend there it's a money saver option.

Yeah, my wife uses a sound machine to help her sleep. But when I snore it's usually pretty loud, forcing her to use earplugs and earmuffs.
